Job/Career Readiness Curriculum (Second Chance Program)

Do you know your purpose in this world?  Did you know that knowing WHO you are matters?  What is that unique thing you do, that no one can do like you?  YOU Matter!  How will employers know who you are if you don't know who you are?  Learn career finding strategies planning for now and the future.  YOU Matter!

Taking Individual Accountability requires everyone to be accountable for his/her own work performance.  The participants develop skills that will help them identify the appropriate action to take, avoid blaming others, eliminate victim thinking, and stop procrastinating. 

Before finding that dream job, learn skills to set the foundation for career planning.  Participants learn to develop self-awareness by evaluating themselves as well as receiving a peer review.  Participants get an understanding of the current job market by learning which employability skills are in demand.  We use our imagination to create a vivid picture of how they want their life and career to be. 

Learn the responsible use of technology and etiquette when using social medial applications and the internet. 

• Learn how to avoid harassment or hateful speech while conversing with others online.
• Learn how to avoid downloading illegal content or otherwise disrespect digital property.

Learn how to organize and plan your time between specific activities. Are you staying busy"  If so, are you being effective? Participant learns how to:

• Achieve greater productivity and efficiency
• Increase opportunities for promotion/advancement
• Build a better professional reputation

Learn how to manage money in a way that is in the best interest of the participant, their family or business, if applicable.  

Participant will:

• Learn the concept of "wise spending".  
• Understand the concept of needs vs. wants.  
• Understanding the basic principles of cash, credit, or retirement investments/contributions
• Importance of an "Emergency Fund"

Having a health self-confidence is critical to your mental and emotional well-being.  Studies have shown that dressing well increases your performance and heightens others' impressions of you.  Participants will:

• Learn what looks excellent and what doesn't according to body shape
• Learn the importance of "planning ahead" to choose the perfect wardrobe
• Learn how to choose best wardrobe considering budget
• Learn to choose clothes that feel like "YOU"
• Understand posture and attitude

Learn how to write or create a great resume. 

Participant will:

• Learn the best resume format
• Learn what relevant work experience consists of
• Learn how to add relevant skills for the job
• Learn how to read the job requirements/duties and compose cover letter accordingly
• Discuss the dos & donts of creating a resume

Learn tips and best practices for finding and getting hired for the job of your dreams. 

Participant will:

• Learn how to do background research
• Understand body language
• Learn the dos and donts of interviewing
• Learn how to prepare for standard behavioral and motivational type interview questions
• Learn what to ask at end of interview
• Learn how and when to follow-up after interview
